Nuzlocke. I'm playing Pokemon Like a 6th Grader

Hey, Sorry for all of these long blog posts, I'm even cutting them short to get them to this length. Whoops. Next time will be shorter, I promise!

First off, I'd like to note that the blog's name has changed to "Don't Tease me, Bro". I don't really have a comment or anything, I just thought I'd let you know. More importantly you should know what I've been doing lately.
So a week or two ago, a few friends began playing Pokemon again. I'm not sure why, but regardless, I avoided returning to my sixth grade pastime, and instead proceeded to make fun of them.

For those of you who never played; Pokemon was (is?) a TV show in which the main character Ash set out on a journey to become "the best there ever was" at Pokemon training. (The name Pokemon translates to "Pocket Monsters") the show is about training Pokemon to fight each other until they faint. This show was turned into a collectible card game, and video games in which you took the role of a Pokemon trainer, on a quest to become the best.

This Is Ash, He's the Best.
But actually he is a terrible Pokemon trainer, he only catches, like 20 of the original 151 Pokemon.
It should be noted that he is a 10 year old boy.

So basically the premise is to become the best dog fighter in all the land. I'm not sure why no one was offended by the idea of creatures fight each other for sport, and then earning in game money for beating other trainers.
ANYWAY back to my story. So I avoided playing until a kid from down the hall, Ethan, introduced me to Nuzlocke. What is that?! You say?! well I'll tell you! Nuzlocke is a style, or rule set, which you can follow when playing the game. There are many variations, but they all contain the same core rules:

1. You may only attempt to capture the first pokemon you encounter in each new area, route, cave, city, etc. If you don't catch it, tough shit, you miss out for that area.

-So for Instance on Route 1 (the first route you travel on) you will encounter Pokemon but wont have any means of catching them, this means you can't ever catch a Pokemon from Route 1.

2. If a Pokemon faints in battle, you must release it ASAP (it's 'dead', not just fainted).

-Traditionally you could just go to a Pokemon Center to revive your Pokemon when it fainted (its hit points were reduced to 0) but now, if this happens you must release it. It is dead.

3. You must give every Pokemon you capture a nickname.

-It is important that you build a bond with your Pokemon. You actually end up caring for them, and when they die and you have to lay them to rest, it is an emotional experience.

Those are the basic rules. There are many more out there which make it even more difficult, but I would recommend trying it with these first if you are interested.
A friend began doing this at the same time as I did, and we decided that upon beating the game, we would battle each other. The winner would come out with living Pokemon, the loser, would need to bury all of his. It's pretty much as intense as children's video games can become.
If you have any interest in trying it but don't have a game available, arrangements can be made for you to play, just leave a comment. You could partake in a Battle Royale, a tournament to the death between Pokemon. I know, it sounds exciting.
Alright, I need to get out more.

'til next time
